Hi everyone. Need some thoughts on my 2014 Dyna Low Rider with 40,000 miles on her. Stock 103. Keep hearing a clatter like marbles rolling around in a plastic cup some where in or underneath the fuel tank as best as I can tell. I say that because it doesn't do it just sitting still & reeving the engine, only when under load or rolling out down the road. It runs smooth & pulls like a bear. Thank you all for any ideas.
Sure sounds like pinging/preignition going on there. Lugging the motor under load will do that, as well as a need for timing adjustment. You said it was stock, but does it have some kind of tuner? Are you using the same brand and octane fuel all along?

I would check my primary chain through the derby with a screw driver . My 295 road king with 70,000 made a similar noise and the compensator was loose. I have a dyna 2012 switch back now. with 22,000 I checked the chain and it was tight as a frogs ***, pulled the primary case an put a Hayden spring loaded chain adjuster on no problems. I also don't listen to harley on any thing, like running synthetic oil, back in the day they said synthetic was bad , now they recommend it . I have ben running syn in the motor, T-4 ROTTELLA IN THE primary, and 90/140 in the trans and it has been out standing, 76,000 on my 2005 Road king could be something else but I would check the gas you are using always use highest octane you can get, I would put an adjustable tensioner in regardless, the stock harley tensioner is junk
As mentioned use a 91 octane rated gas, the piston tops could be loaded up with carbon. Also use gas from Top Tier gas stations. There should be a sticker on the pump that says "top tier" this gas will have all the required amount of detergents to help keep the combustion chamber cleaner and will also help keep the injectors stay clean. If you hear the noises then down shift.
