Default noise in engine

noise sounds like a screech of metal to metal.....other noise is when its in neutral,,,,took it to dealer all they was interested in was why hadnt i ever had a service done on it in 24000,miles i said i do it myself, ,they want verified proof,,i said first i didnt come here for there advice ,,,just see whats wrong and if its covered on warranty, told them i already figured i need some grease when i brought it down here,,,told them i expected this bike to outlast the warranty, but seeing how they might as well have printed the warranty on toilet paper for all the good it is...those victorys are starting to look more and more appealing,,,,,,,???????

The dealer needs proof the bike has been properly maintained to offer warranty. If they did not perform the maintanance it is your resposibility to provide it to them. If you don't have proof then good luck, you will need it.If you do, give it to them and let them do what they need to do.

Ummm, not to hijack this thread, but what proof do they need if we do our own service?

As a precaution, I save my invoices for the parts and write the date and milage at the time of service on it. I work at a dealership (not a motorcycle dealership) and understand how the warranty process in our business works. They are just trying to cover their butts. The last thing they want is to warranty an engine then have to pay for it because it never had an oil change and the manufacture rejected it due to no proof of proper maintenance. Keeping maintenance records is a no-brainer, even makes it easier to sell stuff if you can show that you take care of it.

Best to save your receipts for oil, filters, etc......Also a written log of the mileage when the required maintenance and servicing was completed etc.....Best to have the harley repair manual for your make and model with the items checked off for each servicing on the appropriate servicing check list.....1000 mile, 5000 mile etc......You cannot really blame the folks at the motor company for wanting to make sure the proper servicing has been accomplished.......A warranty is only good if the owner makes sure the proper servicing has been accomplished in a timely manner.....Warranties do not cover negligence by the owner......And no documentation or proof of servicing will surely be looked upon as negligence by the motor company.....whether any of us like it or not....Just part of the deal.

Default RE: noise in engine

I wrote a 2 page letter to the MoCo.

I asked Why was my clutch assembley needing replacement after 250 miles. WHY did the service dept scratch my fender and primary. WHY was my handlebars bent from the factory. WHY am I having bad vibration problems. WHY was my headlight loose after replacement. WHY was my HANDLEBAR RISERS LOOSE after replacement. WHY is my for tube scuffed from the slider. (hit a deer a few months ago and needed my front end replaced).

I told them I worked 12 - 14 hr days, 6 days a week, and I simply dont have the time for this BS. I also told them I was seriously considering a Victory after all this. My last question was:

WHYDOES THE HD AFTERMARKET CHROME HANDLEBARS FROM HD HAVE A STICKER ON IT WITH THE HD LOGO AND "MADE IN TAIWAN!!!!!"

They called me a week later and left a message. I was at work - go figure. I called them back at the # they left me and "waited for the next available operator" for 35 min and hung up. BS.

What it comes down to is I paid a lot of money for reliability, and the fact that it is made in the USA. I always buy American - I am an American serving this nation .I should not have to deal with lousy technitions from 2 diferent dealers and the crap product from an elite MoCo. I wish I could depend on the good ol American product.

Don't get me wrong, I love my bike. But why was my handlebars loose? Taiwan products from HD? WTF? Sorry for the rant and stealing the thread. I do my own work because I trust what I do. I did not get the extended warantee b/c I thought I would not need it since I always do my own work and fluid changes. Thought I could rely on the product and my ability to maintain it. Guess I was wrong. Again sorry - I got the lemen and poor service.
