I have my 03 Suoerglide that has been changed in many ways from stock looking. Its definitely my keeper.. I have the blue tins and they are in excellent condition, but I want a real nice black paintjob... Ive been looking for a complete set of tins for months now.. If you find them they are stupid expensive and need lots of work. I bought a whole FXD that would be the perfect parts to paint, but dont think I should part out a perfect ride.. So, Im thinking about painting my anniversary set, because that would be the least expensive way to go.. Anyone with tins or thoughts on this please ?
Around here in order to get a collector plate an anniversary edition would not qualify unless the bike is at least 25 years old. The only real reasons to get collector plates are to save big on insurance and for increased resale value. Actually, the plate itself adds nothing for resale but in order to get that plate in the first place the bike has to be in excellent condition. Personally, I would look for donor tins because I really like that colour blue but if you have the desire to paint it then don't let the "Anniversary Edition" sway you. Even the numbered anniversary edition bikes don't have any added value as they still share the VIN range with the rest of the model year.
People always want stupid money for anything that's '03. Have you investigated what other years tins will fit? My guess is that and FXD tins from '99 through '05 will fit, but I could be wrong.
Paint the tins you have is my vote. Anniversary paint jobs are usually the worst looking bikes in my opinion and they ofter have tacky emblems as the cherry on top.
If you want it painted then do it. There is no special market value to a 2003 Anniversary. I know some think so but look at the real market. Your ride make it what you want. it is not an investment.

Yes.. 1997-2003 all fit, carb'd .. Wideglide sets are everywhere, but different fill and gauge and center instruments.. Im probably gonna let my neighbor buy the new bike complete, and Ill just paint my anniversary set to my desire.. Hearing everyone's ideas is good though..
I just got back from short ride.. I went to tech shop and saw recent new black paint job, on Streetglide.. Sweet and makes want black even more.. I pulled in and stared at the anniversary paintjob.. Im thinking black even more now..
