Default Abnormal vibrations

First of all, I know bikes vibrate. This isn’t my first Harley. I know how they are supposed to feel. That said…

I’ve been getting some what I consider abnormal vibrations from my Dyna. Feels like what you get if part of the drivetrain was touching the frame/foot peg/whatever. However nothing is. Earlier today I was going over the bike, adjusting the belt (was way loose - 1” deflection. Yikes) I also noticed my front motor mount to frame shims were missing, I guess Scott @ Hillside never put them back when he had my motor out. So I put a jack under the motor to check the gap on the front motor mount and when I pulled the bolts to shim it (there was about 1/8” gap) I also noticed the bolt holes in the mount were about halfway off to the left. I’m wondering if that could be causing the vibes? I pushed it over with a screwdriver and after the shims, the vibs improved a little. Wondering if there’s something else to adjust? I leveled the bike and put an inclinometer on the front and the rear rotors and they both were at 89.9 degrees when the frame was at 0…. Any thoughts?

Any unusual noises associated with the unusual vibes?

Are the vibes, RPM dependent?

No to both.

I think I’m going to replace the front mount (I have a new, factory H-D spare) loosen all the front and rear mount bolts, run the motor for a few seconds and tighten everything back up and see if that buys me anything.

Since the vibrations reduced when I shimmed the front mount gap, I’m really leaning towards the mounts/alignment. Bike only has 8k miles on it also.

I guess everyone else is still recovering from their annual tryptophan overdose. I’ve got a NIB predator as well so I may just drop that in this morning first, and see what that does for me.

I’ll post results for everyone who’s clearly waiting on the edge of their seats…

You done did it now opening the door for half-witted amateurs like me to chime in, thanks for the invite

I'm thinking it has to be one of the big three points of contact of engine to frame; so you've verified that the top mount is secure and ruled it out?

Odds are so recently after something was done to it that it must be connected to what was done...odds are....but not necessarily.

I suspect you're on the right track with the motor mount so hurry with the results cause I'm slipping off my seat!

My 2015 Low Rider developed a curious vibration under deceleration. It turned out that the head bearing needed replacing.

Installed the predator mount and boom. Bike feels like a normal Dyna now. Nice idle, a little vibe up to about 2700 where it smooths out nicely. Above 3000 it’s smooth as glass.

Was it the predator, was my 9k mile factory mount shot, or was it me pulling the front mount off and installing the new one while the bike was perfectly level. Who knows. All I know is I’m done!

I went for a quick hop around town and one exit at 100mph and the bike is rock steady. Sadly there aren’t any twisties around here to try out lol.
