yep check dem tank bolts.i had same prob awhile back looked at mnts etc then grabbed wrench felt like it was tight but turned maybe another trn on front bolt and cured it instantly
Hey, thanks for all the suggestions - I tried them all - except a heavier fluid - with no cure. I dropped the bike off on Sunday nightand they "feel "the problem but have no idea yet of the direct cause. I had thought that the shudder feel was a broken motor mount but they look fine. They are debating dropping the front end off and will give mean update tommorrow (tues). I'll let you know what they discover.
Myself and a buddy tracked my "clunk" down the other day.
It seems like the floating rotor on my Streetbob has a little slack in it. (or whatever the technical term is) When you hold the front brake and rock the bike back and forth you can hear and feel it. Put your hand on the rotor and you can feel it moving just a hair. I am not sure if this is normal but it kind of freaks me out.
ss377 you are frigin great, I have been looking for my "clunk", after your post I went to the garage and checked the tank bolts. The bike has done this since HD did some work on my bike.
It WAS the tank bolts
razor - that's about as a moronic response to a problem as you can get. No **** I'm going to ride it anyway. Just trying to find out if others have had the same issue - idiot.
Chillout dude, looked like he was joking since he did not have the answer.
Mine clunks like a bitch, but my indy did confirm it was my stearing head bearing. Said they should have adjusted it at my 1k and I looked at my manual and it is part of the service. Now I gotta take it back at some point to have the idiots do what they were supposed to do in the first place.
my 02 fxd has the clunk but not as dramatic since i changed fork oil to 10w and threw in an extra 1/2 ounce, my 05 fxdli hasn't developed this yet, but the forks do feel a bit firmer. the vibs on decel may be coming from the primary chain, due a different harmonic frequency coming from the chain because it is "unloading" . both bikes have done this and i don't think nothing of it. some would say "it's a harley thing" i suppose it is.
