Hey all,
I got a leak in my primary drain plug from over tightening on my 95 dyna low rider. Was curious about the best way to fix it. Helicoil or going up to the next size and retapping? Also does anyone know the size of the drain plug?
All help appreciated
If the "drain plug" screws into the bottom of the case vertically with no "o" ring, it should have 4mm sticking out. It's a pipe plug type and if it's screwed in all the way flush you may have cracked the case around the hole. When I change my fluids in the primary, I use a pipe thread sealant to prevent leaks and it will prevent the pug from backing out. By the way this is on my 02 Dyna Super Glide.
To the OP, there is an Evo sub-forum that is catered to EVO classics, might want to introduce yourself to that board also and just peruse through some of the threads there, welcome to the HD forums.
Welcome to the forum, yes that is a pipe thread plug and the first thing you want to try is some Teflon tape and go from there.. Teflon pipe dope works as well but try the tape first.. And as said don't over tighten because of the taper fit you can crack these cases.. The MOCO finally figured it out years later and put a flanged plug with o-ring. Don't know why they couldn't figure that out back in the '80s or 90s.. Technology was not that far behind... I know they call these bikes old iron horses but for Christ's sake they're not horse and buggy... Lol...
