Default Occassional problem

2005 dyna with fuel inj. Every now and then the bike refuses to start. It runs great for days or weeks and then suddenly - no start. Let it sit for a few minutes or hours or days or weeks and bingo starts right up. It turns over fine, I've checked battery, coil, volt reg., switches, fuses, relays, wires, even the air in the tire and I can't find the problem ANY IDEAS PLEASE?

Have you checked for codes?

My '07 was doing that intermittently. Turned out to be the system relay was going bad, causing the fuel pump to go off and then on. It's a pretty cheap part.

Hole in the high pressure fuel line INSIDE the tank, replace the fuel filter, hoses, and regulator in there.

Just a guess..........

OH......did you change your winter air to summer air in your tires?

Sorry my dyna is an '07 and HD made some big changes to the dyna line between '05 and '07. Don't know where it is on your bike. Do you have a service manual?

Edit: This is what the fuse box looks like in my '07, and #2 is the system relay.

More information would help. Does it crank? Do you hear the fuel pump run when you turn it on?

Same on my bike, #2. Already ordered a new one. The casing of the old one has some melted plastic. Thanks for the input. God bless.

Yep. My 04 did this. If you take the relay into a GOOD parts store they'll be able to cross reference it and save you a little coin.

Yes, I checked the relay and the plastic has a melted spot on it. Obviously, relay has a problem. New one ordered and should be in today. Thanks.
