I have a 2010 dyna wide glide with factory suspension. I am curious how taller rear shocks would look and perform but it seems like most people go the other direction and lower the rear.
I am thinking 13-14 inch shocks. I know this should drastically change the handling but I wouldn't mind if the bike turned in more quickly.
Has anyone on here does this to a 2010+ wide glide? Post some picture of you have 👍
The bikes are engineered to handle the best they can under "normal" riding. If ya change the ride height, front OR back, handling will suffer, as in changing the rake and trail. But then, It's not my bike , so I have no vested interest in what you do. Just hang on to the originals in case ya hate it.
I guess we run in different crowds if you see most people lowering their bikes rather than going with longer shocks. I see more people going with longer and taller shocks/ suspension on dynas, and they do so specifically for the better ride and handling. So you get the opposite effect of lowering a bike which has a worse ride and worse handling due to shorter shocks and less suspension travel.
With 13 shocks Your ride comfort will increase, and handling be better due to the better dampening of a quality shock. I doubt you would notice any handing differences in turning from a 1 longer shock as thats just not a big enough change in geometry and your actual ride height (and wheel base) would remain nearly the same when the sag is properly setup.
Which you would only get quicker steering/ turning from a shorter wheelbase or decreasing rake. And with longer shock youre not messing with the rake and with a 13 rear shock the angle of the swing arm isnt changed enough to shorten the wheel base enough to be noticeable in steering. MAYBE with a 14 shock you would be able to notice the change in wheel base, dont know havent ridden a dyna with a 14 shock.

I just installed some progressive 412 12.6" standard rate. Factory was 12". Took it for a spin and it is a pretty drastic difference. The bike feels a whole lot more "flickable" and I'm not scraping peg where I normally would. I feel like this is what should have come from the factory.
I'm tempted to return for the 13 or 13.5 inch but I think it would take away from the look and cruising stability.
