Default Cruise Control

Before I start an extensive search I would like to pick the brains of the forum. Is there a way to put cruise on a 2017 Fat Bob either factory or aftermarket? Any help or info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I see a lot of views but no takers. I plan to install a throttle tender for now. This winter I plan to install at least a 107 kit with cams and have the heads done. I'm going to research it and see if it's possible while I have it apart if I can source the parts. This may be one of those threads I come back and fill in.

I am kinda in the same position you are in, I ride minimum two hours a day going back and forth to work and having cruise control would be a nice option for my 2008 Fatty , but have not looked into it myself .

If I remember correctly this has been done on some Softails. Specifically, the last years of the twin cam Softail Slim just before the M8 and new frame updates in 2018. The story was that the Softail Slim S came with factory electronic cruise control (which is controlled by the ECM), and the regular Slim did not have CC. Guys were ordering the handlebar switch control for a Slim S, and installing it on their regular Slim, and then having the dealer flash the ECM to activate the cruise control.

The question is if this will work on a Dyna? Did the Dyna Lowrider S that was sold the same years as the Slim S have cruise control? If yes, you should be able to do it. If no, you may still be able to do it using the cruise control switch module from a Slim S, but I have no idea about how that will work with a Dyna ECM vs Softail ECM. Whatever the case, you're going to have to find both a dealer parts guy and a dealer service guy who both know their **** and/or are able to think outside the box, a more and more difficult prospect these days.

Search around in the Softail section of the forum, the older one, not the 2018 and up section, for at least one thread about this. That's where I read about this mod back when I was thinking about buying a Slim.

Good luck with it.

I had a 2017 Fat Boy and it was wired for cruise. I just had to buy the switch and outer housing. I didn't even have to have it flashed. The 2017 Low Rider S did have cruise. It has a different ecm and the main harness is different. I've been investigating the possiblity of doing this over next winter. I'll have to source a throttle body also.

Excellent. Please let us all know how it works out.

I don't think you'll be able to find anything that you will find to be cost effective. I know I have seen something googling around that was something like $1400 to add electronic cruise control to a Dyna (and there are no factory parts to do it).

I am planning on buying a newer touring model to get cruise control as the parts to repair cruise control on even a 15 year old Touring model are discontinued.

I can see the advantage of an integrated Cruise Control. I formerly owned a 2004 HD FLHTCUI and a Gold Wing, both of which had the CC installed. I didn't use it very much, except on a long trip where it was very nice. On m Dyna, I just use a throttle lock. I can see where it could get very expensive to have a fully-integrated unit.
