depending on the amount of rain make sure you check the tranny for water contamination after the ride. it gets in through the vent on top of the tranny on my 06 fatboy.

find a motel with a good bar and wait it out
All great advice but thisis the one I would most likely follow! Regardless of what HD says, rain at highway speeds is hard on your bike as there are so many places it can intrude-for example-inside the fender struts where the wires go to the turn signals andinside the headlight, among other places. I've had the taillight get water inside it when riding a considerable distance in the rain. If I can, I simply find a place to stop and wait it out. I have some interesting experiences and met some very unique people doing this.

Rain-X and anti-fog (a cut potato and spit helps, what we use on dives), booties, reflective rain suit and carefullness. Everytime I ride on a 30% chance of rain, I find the 100% of that 30% chance. Oh, have some WD-40, just in case water gets where it's not wanted. That WD stands for Water Displament.

Have fun, makes a memorable experience.

New H-D rider, but 10 years riding on everything else, I HATE riding in the rain. Not so much because of how it affects a bike, but because of how it affects every cage on the road. I did get caught in a stretch of 4-6 inch standing water on the road the other week, and THAT SUCKED!!!

When you are soaking wet and your boots are full of water you know it's not going to get much worse. It will stop raining eventually, when it does take your boots off and drain them, you will dry out a bit quicker.

Just accept the fact you are going to get wet......and give the cagers a big smile as they are passing by you

if you have a efi bike i'd suggest dialectic grease in the connectors from your ecu. Those things get wet you're stuck.....ask me how I know.
second that suggestion ! Its easier to sort it out ahead of the problem ... I also covered the holes in the fender under the seat after my connectors were soaked.

so we are getting ready to embark on a 6 hr ride to Iowa... it is raining like no other in IL!!! so we are just going to man up and take our time... any advice?
What time and where in Iowa, you may be going right by me?? possible meet and greet?? riding in the rain is just like riding in the sun, except its wetter, LOL slow a bit, pay a little more attention, if a car/truck passes and pulls right in in front of you, back down, stay loose..if you have no booties for your feet, little plastic bags on your sox before you put boots on, keeps feet dry at least..I wear a neckerchief to soak up the little water that seems to always find its way down my neck.. have fun, its all part of the motorcycle experience..stories to tell around the fire some night.

If it's real bad I put a wrap a rag (or something) around my thumb for a quick wiperblade.

Wear the right stuff and you'll enjoy it.
