Default Front End Clunk.

I finally got sick of the front end noise my 07 Dyna was making . The local dealerrode it straight into the workshop and retensioned the steering head bearings. The manager explained at the first service that it may happen, but it takes a while so you dont realize just how bad it gets.Whole lot took about 15-20 minutes and my bike feels heaps better to ride.Best of all the front end is silent apart from the brake noise.

It seems to be a common problem that harley has had recently. I have seen it first hand with2 friends with the newer bikes. It sure does make for a better ride when there tight though !

Yeah, had the same issue with mine. Gradually developed over a few months time. When I had time, I tightened up the nut and the noise went away.

It tooke me more than 15 minutes to do the job, though. You can't tighten the nut under the round chrome cover that you can see. That nut just holds the upper tree in place. To get to the bearing nut, you have to remove the top triple tree. And the nut isn't a standard hex nut. It looked like a sprocket. I used a screwdriver and a hammer to tap it a little tighter.

When it was in the workshop I could see what they were doing. The top triple tree was not removed but a hammer and punch got involved so it sounds like you are on the right track. Actual work time was about ten minutes.Bad news is the noise is coming back so it's not tight enough yet. It's been raining all day here so I have'nt been able to really check out the difference, but ona quick10 mile ride last night it handled and steered heaps better.

Yeah. I was browsing around the showroom and the workshop manager came out and told me it was ready and parked at the workshop door. Put my gear on, fired it up and rode away. As far as I am concerned it's warranty job and I got the impression the service manager thought exactly the same. It still does it sometimes but only at very low speeds. The roads have beendry today,so it's had a bit of a workout and it's heaps better to ride.

My bike wasn't covered under warrenty..... I had to pay harley 1 hour labor.

they said because I already had the 1000 mile service (not done by harley) and they
should have done it.

But my bike rides fine now.

The clunk being mentioned here sounds like what I'm also experiencing. When I hit a bump or pothole, I hear a lound clunk in th front end. Is this what is being discussed here?

yeah, it was a prob with the WG's due to the extended rake I beleive. If you hear a clunk, get her in and get it tightened. Not a big deal, but if you let it get bad I can only imagine it could cause damage in the neck....
