2002 Dyna Super Glide FXD Speedometer
Hello guys
I need to replace the speedometer of a 2002 Dyna Super Glide. The speedo have the 67177-99A part number (kilometers speedo. 67025-99A if miles speedo)
Can i use a speedo from an earlier Dyna Super Glide 1995-1998 (part 67177-95A or 96A. It will work and do its function on my 2002 Dyna?
Hope to hear from you guys.
THANKS

Why? Maybe you needed to change also the speed sensor for one of the same year of the speedo. I guess its the same speedo with only improvements on design or quality or just calibrated/adjusted for the same year speed sensor release which could be diferent of other years ?! (Will check if speed sensors have diferent part numbers betteen 96-2002).
For exemple, if you check a Sporster speedo wiring harness of the same year, its exactely the same (plugs, wire colors, wire numbers) just diferent part number.
That year bikes (carburated) also dont have any control unit or something to control the speedo and save info of the tach. The speedo just get power, and read speed sensor info to move the needle.

As far as I know, those of us who own Evo model bikes, have almost all got or have troubles with our speedometers just because of age, and have tried to use any 'newer' year parts, but it's not worked. This is, as far as I've read/heard.
I personally opted for aftermarket for my '97 FL (I would have done the same with my '98 FXD if it hadn't been t-boned with me on it). I'd be willing to bet that the models can't be changed from older-to-newer and vice versa is because of the whole 'computer' thing or lack of it. But if you think it's because wires are the same color in the book, or hear differently, then go for it, but I'd sure hate to have spent that kind of money for a stock speedo and it not work when an aftermarket works fine and will be half the cost if you keep looking hard.

Also, as far as I know, on 2003 and earlier FXD models, they dont have any ecu or ecm or anykind of “brain” paired with the speedo. Speedo just have the “communication” with the speed sensor to do its main function (telling you the velocity and counting miles) Im I wrong?!
Of course wires being same color, etc dont mean all speedos would be compatible but I think, maybe, could mean the speedos didnt have any relevant changes on the way they do their main function.
Ill probably go with an aftermarket also but first, I wanna check the possibilities of having an original HD speedo because here it adds value to the bike. Aftermarket reduces drastically its value.
Do you know if that speedo its able to set the odometer (set the current mileage of the bike)? Or just is possible to start with 0 mileage on the odometer?

I don't know. I'd expect it starts at 0..
So what does that mean? IMO it means that the speedo starts at 0 and once you start racking up the miles, you can't reset it..
