2010 FXDWG Clutch Cable/Adjustment Question
The clutch cable when the bike is cold has no free play, I cannot pull it away from the housing like I could on my previous Harleys. When the bike is warmed up, the cable expands and I get about a 1/4" gap.
Normally this wouldn't be an issue, but I have also noticed that getting the bike into first gear from neutral is difficult. Occasionally, I have to push the bike forward, pull the clutch, and continue to press down on the gear shifter to get it into first, I sometimes see the neutral light flicker when I'm doing this. This happens even when the bike is hot, which makes me hesitant to put it into neutral when at stop lights for fear that I may hold up traffic trying to get it into first.
I haven't opened up the derby cover yet since it arrived a few weeks ago from the dealership, but I am wondering if the dealer may have either misadjusted the clutch, or potentially overfilled the primary with oil.
Anyone dealt with something similar before?
Now with a cold bike, go behind derby and break the fine thread lock nut and screw the stud in to no play and a couple more turns in to deburr thread just in case someone overtightened it.
Now back off 3 turns and come back to no play. Lever the lever to be sure ***** on the other side were cable goes in are set. That also allows you to fill no play levering it.
Now with a firm no play, screw out about 3/4 turn. Hold screw and snug lock nut.
Make sure primary has correct oil level . Bike level. Just touching lower edge of diaphragm spring.
Replace derby. Now checking at both locks of the bars, give cable 1/16" of play.
Occasion, you may have to trim the cable length adjustment.
As long as you don't adbuse clutch, a wet clutch doesn't really wear.
My 04 has been adjusted couple times in 50,000 miles.
