When I first bought my SG late in 2005 I was unaware of the upgrade that everyone does:
fuel management, air cleaner, and new pipes.
Of course I got hooked and eventually settled on a nice set of SEII slipons (loud ones), PCIII, and SE air cleaner - added them at about 1.5K miles. I was happy with the performance and sound - but boy did those V&H BSS look good.
Eventually I got the V&H. They look great! Only problem is they sound like crap (regardless of baffle they crackle like crazy) and they don't make as much HP as the SEII slips.
So - I'm seriously thinkin of going back to the SEII. Anyone had both? Opinions? Would you sacrifice the look you want and go for the sound and performance?
I don't have the $800+ for the rinehart 2-2 flush or I'd go that route.

Funny to hear someone else say the same things I felt when I had my V&H Big Radius pipes. I love the look of the BSS also, but after hearing what you have to say, it makes me wonder. I got more Low-end power out of the setup you describe as well: stock pipes with SE slip-ons, plus my bike sounds great, or I think anyway, better than it did with the crackly BR's.
The look of the BSS has really got me though...guess I'd have to hear them in person on a Wide Glide before I pluncked down the cash, an even then I'd still keep my stock exhaust, just in case
Each time I pick a set of pipes it's for performance.
The only exception being I will trade some of that for the looks.
Performance first, appearance last but both count.
A lot of the bros here should check out the dyno results of Hooker step-tuned pipes, especially for S&S mods.
Trotter - I know that's the way to go - and maybe next year - but we still got a few good months of ridin here in the Northeast - so it's back to the SEII for this year - and next year - who knows?????
When you mentioned you were tradin your ride in for a Softail - I knew you had the Rineharts and I was gonna offer to buy em, but mine is a 2005 - and they wouldn't fit.
