Default Adding a Tachometer

I'd like to add a tach to my 2007 Superglide Custom. It looks like Harley offers a couple options. One is the combination speedometer/tachometer that replaces the original speedometer. Looks cool, but lists for $450. The other option is the 2 5/8" mini tach up on the handlebar clamp. The tach alone is $140, but you have to buy $200 worth of other stuff to mount it. I think the handlebar mounted tachwould be easier to read.

Has anybody here added a tach to their FXDC? How hard was it to install? How do you like it?

The HDmini teck is all plastic. The lens is plastic not crystal and thecrome outer on the teck is also cheep plastic. I took lookto see where it was manufactured expecting to see China, it said made in USA. My parts guy agreed that it was a cheep knock off and agreed to return the special order withoutthe 25% restocking/ returns fine.

Sad thing is the HD bar mount tach is the best choice. You can get a metal bucket for the actual tach unit to sit in for a few bux more. I've always liked auto meter gauges in cars, but The Auto meter tachs in the fat book are not supposed to get wet!!my problem with the hd gas tank mounted speedo/ tach combo is. To see the tach you have to take your eyes totally off the road to look down and find a tiny tach. if i am running hard enough to need a tach i dont want to take my eyes off the road

Sokanxx is right about the tach/speedo layout - next best thing to not having a tach at all.
I just went out to the garage and dug up the speedo mount off my old Sportster (03 883XLH) and it fits the bolts on the handle bars of my FXDL. Distance is 4.25" On Center between the holes. You can get a chrome speedo bracket kit that fits the Sportster tach P/N67233-95. There is a Sportster Tach Kit sold with the double face mount, but I know you can get the tach separately throught the dealer parts dept. The tach runs off the speedo and the tech who installed the tach kit on my Sportie tossed the wiring kit and just hard wired it. About 1.5 hours labor. If you have the magic distance between the handle bar bracket bolts, you should be able to do this conversion.
I'm about ready to do it and turn the existing tach into a clock or a chrome circle.
Good luck.

There is a way to do it with the speedo and tach together just like the low rider setup. I did it on my 06 Street Bob by finding a low rider console and a low rider tach. It all installed just fine, like it was made that way. I go the console for about 35.00 and well traded for the tach. Do search on this subject if you are interested in doing this. Good luck in what ever you decide to do.
