Did RoRo's on short trips, ferries crossing the English Channel and the big open sea cataramans crossing from Holyhead to Dublin and from Belfast to Glascow I think it was. That's just short-hopping though, I'd push for the crated version on a long cross, helps protect it from the elements and yay-hoo's walking by that like to touch things.

I would mount brand new tires on it before shipping, can't be too sure about tires being available everywhere all the time anymore so better safe than sorry. Also, in the lowlands of Italy you're gonna see lots of traffic, lots of people, cities full of slow moving traffic, lot's of stops and go's, engine's gonna heat up, might want to upgrade to a clutch that is stronger or take another replacement clutch with you, parts can be a pain to source overseas sometimes.

To sell to someone like a local the bike would have to be brought through their customs/importation system, bit of a pain and not going to be free. Americans serving overseas don't go through that process to have a car or bike shipped over. I sold the earlier bmw to a german and it had to be imported as if it just arrived in country; Taxes, taxes, taxes!

One note on riding in the British Isles, you strap down the bike in the hull, go up top for a couple of pints during the crossing and then hop on the bike and start driving on the wrong side of the road, the more pints you have the more natural the driving seems

OP asks a great question:
Moving to Europe, wants to ship/ take their USA Harley to the new location.

Crating/shipping company, VAT taxes, exhaust/smog safety laws, and new country registration as some questions.
OP, please let us know what you discover and your success.

PS Great informative thread.
