Default Dyna issues

Just bought a 05 fxd when purchased the guy explained few eletrical issues (brake lights not working ) he told me that having the brakes plugged in to the actuator and pressing the rear break would kill power to the speedo and lights , nothing that hinders the overall function of the bike at the time it started and rode amazing today after trying to trouble shoot fuses that he had taken out and needed to be put back I had re connected the brakes and started it moved it 5 feet hit the rear break and it killed power to the speedo so I shut the bike off replaced the fuse now when I got to start the bike I hit the run switch and press start and not even the slightest tick of the starter my main question is where should I start looking to fix these issues? Do I need to strip the bike down to frame motor and harness please help

Sorry, but I will have to disagree with whoever said that the brakes killing the speedo and other lights is "nothing that hinders the overall function of the bike ". IMHO, that is a big problem that affects the safe operation of that bike..

Which fuse did you replace? Are you sure it's the only fuse that blew?

In any case, there appears to be a short somewhere in the brake light system that is causing issues.... Whether or not that is the only problem, you'll need to find out.

You are going to have to get a voltmeter, a wiring schematic for your bike, and spend the time necessary to locate the short that is blowing the fuses when the brake lights are activated. You'll need to be systematic, and persistent... but you will eventually find it..

Good luck with the diagnosis...

At least now you know why he was selling the bike, regardless of the BS story he told you..

Hopefully you got it cheap enough. Sounds like the seller fixed it enough to unload his problem. Salvages Harnesses are available, if the wiring is melted, is it FI?

here’s a option, would be a lot of work, but so would chasing the gremlin you already have.
you are going to need a factory service manual either way.
