I agree w/otherslook at other dyna's first like lowrider, streetb, etc.
OK I don't mean to hijack but I have similar concern...
keeping it short:
bike = 00 fxdwg w/forward controls
happy w/forwards, but for long trips (+300miles) I need another option for foot placement.
I've looking into highway/mustache bars, but I think mid mount pegs are more of what I need (only 5'9)and would be cheap if doable.

sooo,has anyoneinstalled mid mount pegs on afxdwg w/forward controls?
Should be easy. I have a set of stock mid-mounts and pegs that should bolt right up if you are interested. However, you may have an issue with the exhaust pipe guard. My super glide has an indention in the pipe guard where the mid-mounts used to fit over. Without that indention, you may have an issue with the peg mount not being able to clear the exhaust pipe.

policepop,

I'm not sure what exact styling features you enjoy so much with the Wide Glide, but if it has anything to do with the rear fender, I believe they make the Bobtail fender as an color-matched accessory for other Dyna models.

Example:you could purchase a Street Bob, which comes with mid-controls, and purchasea color-matched bobtailfender as an accessory to achieve the look you desire.

Just throwing that out as another option. Good luck.

Pop,
When I bought my bike last year Ithink my situation was similar to your quandry now. I was torn between the Wide Glide and the Low Rider. I wanted the mid controls of the LR but loved the bobtail and bars of the WG. Stealer was telling me about $1k to convert the WG forward to mid and it was about the same to put the bobtail on a LR. Long story short went with the LR and got the stealer to throw in the bobtail as part of the deal. Had WG bars put on it this past winter and have been happily cruising ever since.
So if your mechanically inclined the bobtail conversion is probalby a bit easier than the controls. If you're looking at the stealer doing the work it's about a wash with the exception of the pipes already mentioned. I was going with new pipes either way so that did not figure into my situation. Hope it works out for you

Well fry me in Oil for this but my forwards are 3" closer than the wide glide I'm 5'10" with a 30" inseam and with my Arthritis in my hands and Knees, I can ride all day again.. Contrary to what you hear, I cant make it vibrate at any speed or idle. The wide Glide front end, 200mm rear tire Bob tailrear fender, Low seat height, close to the same rake.and Length. Left over 07, 12,996.00 I love my Dyna's butboth of them were robbing me of ride time....All day is no problem with my hands and knees again... Check out all your options there all great bikes....

Ok let me have it... LOL

I sat on a '99 Wide Glide with mid mounted controls at Woodstock Harley-Davidson. (Illinois) I passed on it because I wanted something different. SoI knowyour bike exists.
