Default mid controls

I suspect I'm going to get slammed pretty badly for my ignorance, but I'm not getting any straight answers locally, so here goes nothing.
I'm finally at a point where I can afford a used bike this fall, and I'm absolutely taken with the wide glide. However, being vertically impared, I'm not really comfortable with my legs reaching forward when I rode a friends WG, and the question came into my mind about mounting mid controls.
Is this possible with a WG, or am I stuck with getting a seat to push me forward, and lowering the bike?
Again, I'm sorry if I'm being ignorant, but if you don't ask you don't learn.

I'm not familiar with pre 06 pop.

06 up, you can do it.

Quite a few parts.

Probably find someone to trade the pieces with you.

I would say going to mid's is possible. Check for clearance on your pips tho. It may be cheaper to go with a reach seat.

Great choice in bikes, Pop!

I'm sure it can be done. My 06 Wide Glide has mid-peg mounts. Besides the obvious levers and such, you'll need a derby cover with a hole in it for the shift lever. Maybe someone here will want to do a mid-to-forward control swap.

Don't hesitate to ask anythiung around here. I've posed some of the (seemingly to me) dumbest stuff and I always get answers. Good group here.

Unless you are absolutely set on the WG I would look for a bike that has the mids already. That or go with a bike that has boards. The low rider might be a good choice for you.

I am vertically challenged as well. I chose a FXDL low rider which has mid-controls and a low stand over height. If you aren't dead set on a wide glide then check out the low riders. Good Luck!

Can it be done? Of course, most anything can with the right tools and parts. Mounting the mid-pegs should be a breeze. Though I've never looked, I suspect the mounting holes for the pegs are already in place on the frame - just pop out the plastic caps and bolt on the pegs. Your challenge, however, will be the brake setup and the shifter. The brakes will be easy provided the stock dyna mid-shift brake rod will fit. If not, you'll need to find someone that makes a kit for this or have one fabricated. I have no idea what it will take to get a shifter spline through the outer primary cover to mount a mid-shifter to. I have noticed on wide glides that there appears to be a removable cover in that area. So, perhaps there is a kit out there for doing this.

However, I agree with some of the other posters as well. Consider other bikes. The rest of the dyna's are sweet rides as well and you may be better off picking up a stock super glide or lowrider and changing other things to suit your needs like the handlebars, seat, etc.

I think the issues are going to be with the shifter side.
As others have mentioned, the mounts should bolt right up, And it should be easy to find the parts, including the brake lever and rod.
I'd be most concerned with the shifter side, for sure you are going to have to remove the primary covers, inner and outer, and add the correct internal parts.

As mentioned - if you're considering a 2005 or older - why not the LowRider? Same rake as the WG - but already nice and low.
The 2006 and later LR do not have the raked front.

I agree w/otherslook at other dyna's first like lowrider, streetb, etc.
OK I don't mean to hijack but I have similar concern...
keeping it short:
bike = 00 fxdwg w/forward controls
happy w/forwards, but for long trips (+300miles) I need another option for foot placement.
I've looking into highway/mustache bars, but I think mid mount pegs are more of what I need (only 5'9)and would be cheap if doable.

sooo, has anyoneinstalled mid mount pegs on afxdwg w/forward controls?
