Going by what you said, the orange wire is the hot from the breaker to the brake light switch,
The red wire should show "0" until you press either lever,
The bike is a 12 volt system and should not show 42 volts.
The green wire is the running light and should show 12 volts with the ignition on.
The black wires are your blinker wires brown tape and violet tape, right and left respectively.
The lights on a 93 are self grounding and have no ground wire, so they must be grounded to bench test.

This makes no sense. The blue wire reads 42 what? Don't start changing parts without first demonstrating that they are bad. It just adds to the confusion.

I checked the orange and red wire at the front brake switch. Both wires say 11.5 volts without the switch engaged and when I engage the switch, they both read 0 volts.

The rear brake switch doesn't change voltage at all with switch engaged or disengaged. 10.5-10.7volts

Are you testing to ground or wire to wire?
Sounds like a dumb question but humor me.

Testing to ground, as I said not too electrical savvy. I see now I'm suppose to test wire to wire, I'll get back to you

Measure from the test point to ground. When the switch is off (open), one side should be 12 volts relative to ground and the other side zero and the light should be off. When the switch is on (closed) both sides should be 12 volts and the light should be on. If you get different results, try disconnecting the wires to one switch and then testing the other one.

1 switch wire to ground should be 12 volts on 1 side 0 volts on the other until activated
when activated 12 volts on both sides.
This would be the same on both switches.
