Default Break Light Wiring Help - 05 883 & Prism Box Chopper Light

I need some help wiring my aftermarket break light/tail light.

I have an 05 883 (UK model) that is almost finished I just can't get the brake/running light working right.

I've followed the wiring diagrams from Harley and the wiring diagrams from Prism.

The tail light from Prism has 3 wires; ground, brake and running.

The bike has 4 wires; ground, brake, DOM running and HDI running.

No matter what I try the brake light is always on. So no running light and when I press the break nothing happens as the brake light is always on.

I have wired ground to ground, brake to brake and running to DOM & HDI and it doesn't work.

I have wired ground to ground, brake to brake and running to DOM and it doesn't work.

I have wired ground to ground, brake to brake and running to HDI and it doesn't work.

As far as I can tell I am doing everything right and I have tried all the variations so the fact this is still not working is driving me crazy.

Any ideas on how I can wire this up correctly? Any ideas why its not working?

Thanks in advance.

Stop playing with the wires and simply connect your voltmeter to the wire for the brake light circuit, check that the front and rear switches are powering the circuit properly...

It is very common for brake light switches to be stuck in the on position, especially the front switch.

thanks for the advice, I tested everything today and there was no issue with the circuits and then when I wired it all up again the light worked as intended. No idea whats different today compared to yesterday but if it works it works.

We have a saying on this side of the pond....... "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth"! I was going to suggest that you check the front brake lever/switch as that is a common problem. I have fixed mine (fingers crossed) by tapping a hole for a tiny screw in the tip of the front brake lever to further engage the switch, and it has worked so far. Mine is a 2005 XL883 Low. Personally, I would be very suspicious of that lever and switch as mine acted in a similar way..... it would work one day, or week, and then not work for a time, then repeat the symptoms.
