Default 2005 Roadking brake light problems

I need advice about what to do next. Front brake lever nor the rear brake pedal will light up my brake light but the running light is on.

The blue black and red wires were obvious on the new LED tail light. I am unsure of the two thinner wires that are black and white - to how it connects into my harness.

Both the front and rear brake light switches trigger a relay to send 12 vdc to the brake/stop light. I believe the relay is located under the seat? I would check the relay to confirm it is operating when the front brake lever or rear brake pedal is depressed.

The wiring diagrams can be found here https://serviceinfo.harley-davidson....%3D2005+wiring

There wasn't a wiring diagram with the new LED light? Temporally hook up your old tail light and see if the brake light activates. If so, maybe someone who has installed the LED tail light can chine in on the wiring. But I believe those two wires would have to be hooked up to something.

I got lucky and it was hooked up correctly but the switch in the front brake handle was way out of adjustment is what it ended up being. I am upgrading to chrome housings and switches so during the upgrade the problem will be resolved.

I got a LED rear brake light from China and they did not include any paperwork with it.... Sometimes when you go cheap - you get cheap.

Thank y'all for the help and advice. Keep the rubber down brothers!

To put a "fine point" on this, did your original problem turn out to be that the brake light was on all the time? Brake light failure has been a common assumption when the real problem is that the brake light is on all the time, hence no increase in brightness when either brake is applied. Incorrect diagnosis of the problem makes the solution very hard to find.

Yes sir the brake light was activated all the time - less than 5 minutes a guy diagnosed then problem to be due to the slop in the front switch. I was embarrassed but accept the fact that guy knew what he was doing. He showed me to where someone had shoved a quarter inside the switch trying to compensate for all the slop - I did not do that!

There should be a "V" shaped piece of spring steel in the housing to hold the switch in place.

Thank you QC - I am going ahead and upgrading my front hand controls and switches to chrome and the brake resivour. So all the components should be new ones and function correctly.
