Default Bar / Riser options without buying cables. 2009 FXDC

Kind of like the title says.

Just got my first Harley (at age 67) YEAH!

What can I put on as far as handlebars and/or risers without having to purchase longer cables.

It's not bad for comfort right now but if I were to take a longer ride I would want something a little closer and higher up.

I know I am asking a lot but I am trying to budget for now (just got the bike a month ago and have already dropped over $500).

I am 6' tall and would also like suggestions on what bars / risers worked out for you.

Thanks,

Chris

Which model? Kind of makes it hard to give recommendations something when we don't know what you have now

Is the speedo on the gas tank. If so, that's less to be concerned about.
There is *usually* extra wiring in the backbone & seat area that can be worked forward for extra length.
That leaves throttle, clutch and brake line. Probably can reroute the throttle.
Maybe 2" risers and you've be ok with stock stuff. Just have to see how your cables are now.
More expense I know, but if you are handy with common tools, adding longer clutch or brake line is pretty easy.
You'll get more input from others. Good luck.

I have a 2012 FXDC, with stock cables and brake line I have run the stock bar with 4” risers. I then swapped to 10” mini apes with the stock risers. I am now running Flanders FX style buckhorns.

Yes I understand that. But what style and model of bars are on it now. You could take delivery of a bike with whatever kind of bars you wanted when they are new.

That will help us to determine how much slack in cables you have. A picture would be cool

If they are the stock buckhorns....the brakeline is the real limiter.

Completely stock.
I'll get some pics when I get home tomorrow.
Thanks

I explored the same thing with bars and risers on the 09 I picked up last year. I'm 6'2" and could use some height on the bars. Like mentioned, the brake line is the limiting factor. At least on mine anyway. I've read that folks have got away with 4" risers but on mine it isn't there. I think the most I could away with is maybe some 1.5" riser extensions. This 09 I picked up was bone stock and a very fine example of a now 16 year old bike and decided to leave the bars alone. But I pretty much keep my rides to a 2 to 4 hour rides, every now and then, with a stretch every hour or so. But I'd live some 14 to 16" apes on it. Good luck with your decision and/or mods

Generally speaking you can get away with any combination of bars and risers between 8-10 inches total height.
I have a 95 Dyna that came stock with 1.5 inch risers and buckhorns. I kept the risers and installed a set of 8 inch mini apes.

Didn’t have to reroute any wires or cables but I did have to tweak my front brake line a little.
I just went real slow and made small slow bends in the brake line.

Again, this is a generalization that applies to most bikes. Some bikes may not work as well as others.
