Well time has come I have S & S slip on's my FXDI35 with the baffles out and it sounds great , however my hearing , not so much. I wear hearing aids and even with them in my ear when not riding I have them turned up quite a lot. So it's time to slap the baffles back in. Boy I do miss the strong sound with them out but with all considered I'll guess I'll just have to get used to the new sound. Boy it's rough getting old
I have V&H Straight Shots on my Dyna. They do have baffles but the pipes are still quite loud when on the throttle. I always pop in a pair of earplugs before I go for a ride. The earplugs make the pipes tolerable.
I went from a half helmet with flaps to a full face HJC that really controls the outside sound.. The fit is very snug and is outfitted with Blue Tooth.. No issues.. Yes my pipes are loud. Stock decatted FatBob head pipe and Rush slip ons..
All my bikes are open pipes with the bolt trick / TTI’s. I do what’s best for the performance not the sound… but in recent months I’m considering option to quiet things down. Not sure what to do because I’m not going to sacrifice my top end..
Khrome Werks makes mufflers with “ Dog ball baffles” that don’t restrict the flow but do help control reversion. They also make baffles that have a lower deep tone and increase torque down low, but take a little off the top end. They have been around a long time. Not the flavor of the day mufflers, but good science behind their products. I’m not associated with Khrome Werks. I had my original mufflers altered by American customs, that was a joke. Then tried some others name branded mufflers that were louder, but lost low end. Good balance w/ their products IMO.
I don't ride with my hearing aids in and probably should use ear plugs but I don't . Funny I could swear the bike feels like it's faster response with the baffles in and it's not completely quite, other drivers still hear the bike coming
