I clean mine when it's dirty, uselly about a month. I watch the color change. Fresh oil is red/pink, after 2 weeks in the sun it turns white, 2 to 3 weeks later it's black and ready for cleaning.

I also clean mine about once a month. I always cover it with a plastic bag when I wash my bike, so that stretches out the time between oiling a bit. It's always an "oh sh*t" moment for me when that time comes because I only have that one K&N filter and when it's drying, I'm grounded at home.

I really need to invest in another one so I don't have that problem.

I use a SE air filter open element... i clean it with the K&N cleaner and just let it dry... SE air filters are oil less... i do it with every oil change

I agree with dynablack, I was told 5,000 miles between cleaning/.oiling. I have K&N exposed also.

I do mine at the service intervals. Every 5,000.

Silly question,
How do you oil?
How much oil?
What type of oil?

I run an open filter and it is turning a whitish grey.
