Hey all, I have an 08 street bob, and had a couple questions about pipes. I have ordered the new black short shots, and cant wait for them to get here.
1. Can you install these yourself, or is it better to get the dealer to do it?
2. Do I need to buy a power commander for just the pipes?
3. How many miles are recommended before installing the pipes.
Iâm lucky to have a dealership with a great service department.
They take care of my ride so I donât have too worry about a thing.
Of course I have know desire to work on it myself anyway.
If the pipes are a full system, itis a good idea to get a power commander or similar product to make sure fueling is right. If you are not mechanically inclined, let the dealer do it. You do not want to mess up new pipes or create a new problem from inexperience. I personally would break in the bike first, but that is just me.
If i am not mistaken i belive the V&H have a power chamber acting as a 2-1... if so the bike will not run right unless you get a power comander or race tuner of some kind... and get the right map into the bike
Since the thread is titled Short Shots those pipes do not have the power chamber.
You can do pipes straight out of the gate. As long as you don't alsodo a bigger A/C, a remap or tuner is not nessacarilyneeded, but I do recommend it for better performance, sound , etc. out of your pipes. At that rate you may as well go with the A/C at this time so you don't have to remap again.
