Every manufacturer has their own idea of what a "large" is and what a "small" is, so if you want the right size you need to go to the website of whoever makes the gloves you're looking at, and hopefully they'll have a sizing chart. Like most clothes, the sizes vary by maker.

These "Hippo Hands" get good reviews, especially from motorcycle policemen in colder climates...
I picked up a pair of NorthFace snowboarder gloves last winter...they came with a warm liner and the outer shell was waterproof and windproof...that's what I'll be using again this winter!
