Because some of the things we ask about, like changing oil, removing seats, etc. are probably not that hard and others may think it silly to ask. But, until you've done it yourself for the first time on a bike, it can be intimidating.

It's intimidating in itself to be here in the presence of some great "wrenches". I appreciate all of the great info. I've gotten on here. I'm trying my best to pay it back anytime I can if something comes up that I do know something about.

I don't know about anyone else, But I am a f--king smart person. Smarter than most people riding Harleys, because I didn't go with the crowd and buy a soft-tail...............I bought a Dyna..........a sure sign of intelligence.

And, incidently, this particular forum is filled with smart riders, we all have Dynas........

Seriously, we all need help at some point, and that is what bikers do, we help each other. I know a lot of bikers, and a few of them can't change their own oil, but they are still great people and fellow bikers.

like i always told my students while i was an instructor. "you won't know until you ask, and the stupid question is the one not asked." so ask away and someday you might be able to pass along your knowledge. ride safe

i'm not so sure about the "no stupid question" theory. I have heard some really dumb ones while I was doing living history demonstrations. Standing around the campfire one day, one lady asked if it was a real fire. Another asked if the meat we were eating was real. Well now..........

If you start your post from a position of humility your less likely to be treated like a tard for asking a question that's obvious to the more experienced types who may take pity on you and answer your question instead of telling you to buy the service manual and figure it out for yourself.

In all honsesty, it would be refreshinng if people plunked down the 60 bucks or so for the service maual and flipped through it first before asking simple questions. Not that I mind helping others, but the old line" I don't have the service manual" gets kind of tired.

If your plunking down 12 to 20k on a bike and have the ***** to wrench it yourself, is a few dollars spent and a few minutes reading, such a tough task?

Sorry to come off on a down note, but it had to be said.

The fact is, I know I am a very intelligent person, but the person is one of a total idiot.
