...if you get two seasons out of it you are ahead of the curve - three and it's bonus. I view it as any other wear part - replace it early and often - especially critical now with all the electronics they have.
I bought the Odyssey Extreme Dry Cell and I'm pleased. Also the 1 amp trickle charger. I hooked it up so if I'm working with the key on, it charges (Lights and accessory drain)
Strongly suggest a dry cell over wet. If the wet leaks / spills, whatever it touches is ruined - chrome, paint, etc...
I have a the battle scars from a cheap Auto Zone Battery to prove it...

I got four out of mine, battery tender used and all. Try checking the connections for corrosion or loosness first. Then go buy a new battery. You're going to need it....

make sure you have the charging system checked. i have an 03 the bat went dead i replaced it and a week later it went dead got to checking and the regulator went out and wasn't charging the bat
changed it out and a week later same problem dead bat come to find out when the regulator went bad
and i was running on the bat it caused the 2nd dairy windings on the stator to go bad. luckily i had the extended warranty other wise it would have cost 483 dollars to fix all i ended up paying was 25 deductible and cost of the bat but put the original on a slow charge and it is holding up so i got a spare when it does go bad but next time i will make sure everything is checked out before i ride that way i won't end up with all the headache next time. but do make sure to have it checked out it may not be just the bat
rant over good luck

An Inerstate sealed battery, or genuine HD sealed battery should last a long time (years) as long as you dont let it sit all the time. The Yuasa batterys (the kind you have to pour the acid into) dont seem to do as well. I live in SO CAL, so I ride about 345 days out of the year, and I think this has something to do with it

Here is something to try if you park in garage for winter. Put a thin piece of wood under the kickstand or a piece of plastic something so no part of bike touches concrete or ground. Your battery will last longer an hold a charge longer. I have never put my bike on a charger an never failed to start. This was a 2002 sportster that I trade in for the 07 dyna I have now for 2 mths. Give it a try it.

My '01 lasted until I traded it in '07. Never used a trickle charger and it sat for several months each Colorado winter. Just threw enough of a charge in it to get it started in the spring and that was it.

One thing i have learned over the years is that batteries all have their own personalities....It seems that some batteries seem to go on for a very long time, and some just do not last very long for whatever reason...And thats with cars, bikes, boats, planes, etc....Just do your best to keep em serviced, charged during the winter months, and all of your connections clean and free of corrosion....I have had very expensive boat batteries last only a few seasons, and cheaper ones at times last 4 or 5 seasons etc. Same with motorcycle batteries.....I have read some good articles about the newer type gel batteries, and next time i need a battery i may buy one.
