Great advice. I am now thoroughly confused, but in a good way. Now I'm looking at the Lowrider too, as it seems to sort ofbe in between the Superglide & Wide. What "2007fxdc" said about switching controls totally makes sense. My riding style was pretty hard because of light rice rockets, but as I get older, I just want to cruise more. I'm also going toride all the time, and not store the damm thing because of winter and only put a few miles per year on it. I wonder why the Superglide is so much less this year?I don't know if a Lowrider would fit me. I'm only 6ft, but have very long legs & arms. I will go to the Dealer next Mon. and test all the ones I've narrowed it down to. Once again thanks to all for the prompt and informative advice.
Drummer, I'm 6' too and weigh a tad over 200. I went from forwards on the Sporty Custom to mids on the Super Glide. The mids are taking a little getting used to after 9 years with forwards. But, I knew that was going to be the case to one degree or another. I expect that eventually, I'll look at adding forwards, but that's a little ways down the road. What I did, comfort-wise, to cover my bases in the mean time was to mount highway pegs on my engine guard. That way I can cruise with my legs out stretched and still use the mids when in traffic or carving twisties.

Same here... The moment I sat/rode my dads Wide Glide with the forward controls, I knew that's what I wanted. I also like the 21" rim better and the 49mm raked out forks over the 'competition.'
I'm not sure where all these twisties are that other bikes handle better. My thought is, if I made it through without hitting anything, it handles just fine. It's not a GSXR, so I don't feel the need to prove anything in the corners. But it feels nice to drag a peg every now and then...
SWEETlooking rides guys. Thanks! It's hard (at least for me) to envision what the stock Superglides will look like customized, and all the pictures really helped. I think it's Superglide time for me. They just look real clean to me, and from what I gather, they handle nice too. I'm truly inspired. Will keep ya'll updated on my purchase. I really dig the Lowrider handle bars on the Superglide.
Hey Drummer, After having ridden Superglide, Springer, Deuce and a Heritage Softy, I ended up buying a 2007 Wide Glide. I sometimes (after 200miles in the saddle) wish I had mid controls to take some weight off my fat r's. The Superglides are great bikes.They have much quicker steering (good in city riding and parking)and very versatile, but if you really want pose value and are not doing 400 miles + every trip - go the Wide Glide! It might be our last chance to own one of the Motor Company's finest.
Thanks WideguyOz, although how I like the ride will be the ultimate decision maker, owning a Wide Glide the last year they'll make them is pretty cool. Nice looking ride you have. By the way, watch out for Box Jellyfish, Great Whites, Funnel Webs, Tai Pans, Yowies, Dingos, Poisenous Spurs on Plattypus', and all that other dangerous *%#! you guys have down there. I watch too much Discovery & National Geo.
I suggest the wide glide. I was planning on a softtail custom for over a yr. I loved the look. Then one day at a good dealer. He let me test ride....several bikes.....I totally lost interest in the softtails.....The wide glide became my choice...
I am glad I didnt buy before a test ride....Test ride all bikes...dont buy without a test ride.
The rental suggestions are the best and you should do that. But if you're just looking for something to help you "blue sky," then think about your riding style. You say you've been riding KZs so you must have an idea of what kind of riding you do. If you're a highway guy, the WG may be a better fit to your style than the SG. If you're a back-roader, the opposite will be true.
Here's a trick I use when I'm stuck between conflicting desires: pick one. Say, "I'm going to buy the Super Glide." Then see if your stomach twitches. That's your "inner biker" saying, "No, no, no!" Head .vs. gut battles can be a problem, but I usually find I'm happier listening to my gut.
The technical differences between the bikes are small. What you want is the one that makes you happy. Everything else will fall into line or get bolted on later.
