Default Dyna Vibration

Hi,I'm new to the forum, ride an Ultra which I traded in a T-Sport for.Loved the Sport would have it back tomorrow, except for a vibration which went thru the frame, bars, footrests, seat, everything. between 2,200 & 2,800rpm,at it's worst, had it checked by 3 Harley Dealers, they said it was normal for Dyna's.It was bad enough to blur vision thru my specs.Any comments or Ideas if it does exist & anyonn knows a cure I'll go get my Sport back!!!(it's still for sale at the dealer).

My Dyna Sport vibrates between 2500-2800rpm but it's nowhere near as bad as you describe. Below 2500 and (especially) above 3000 it's almost totally smooth. I've heard many folk say the same thing - must be where the motor's vibration matches a resonance in the chassis and/or a point at which the rubber mounts vibrate. I quite like it in that it adds some character to the bike.

Must admit though - my specs remain blur-free!!

My dyna really only vibrates at idle so you might want to look into wheel balancing or maybe rear tire out of alignment there have been other threads in referance to this so maybe do a search. That was when TC was actively posting and he sure is a big help.

Or some folks might refer to it as "engine harmonics". My Wide Glide had what I called a "high frequency" vibe right around 60 to 65 m.p.h. Dealer said it was normal.

I never had any trouble with the motor...great gas mileage, used no oil, etc. so I just learned to live with it, although I did avoid holding that speed for long stretches. [&:]

There is a thread on V-Twin forum that talks about how to considerably reduce engine vibration.
Check out this link: www.v-twin forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58306
(Take out the space between twin and forum... guess the webmaster doesn't like links to other harley sites)

Guess you're right; I tried to fix it, but no go. -- Tripper

Could be a number of things, after checking to make sure front and rear wheels are aligned properly with tires inflated to their correct psi, I would look into the engine alinment with the stressed frame member. Alot of times the top stabilizer link is not set correctly, and most dealerships wont waste their time getting this properly set, and it can make a real big difference. Get yourself a service manual and go over the procedure. You will need to make sure the front and rear rotors are perfectly parallel with each other before you can properly do this procedure.

I have to agree with MegaHDman. I have a T-Sport and it is smooth in that range. I have some transient vibration around 1800 RPM which is not much of a problem. I only feel it through the footpegs. Top motor mount is my guess. After years of riding rice rockets I switched to H-D. I think the engine vibration is very subdued. Much better than the high frequency buzz at cruising speeds in other bikes.

I read the other posts and did not see anything about belt tension. I have a wide glide and the belt was a bit too loose and the wife complained of a vibe that I thought I might be feeling but after the seat hold-down bracket cracked, I started checking, re-adjusted the belt tension and the vibe went away and I could actually feel the difference myself. Now it is smooth everywhere except at a low idle and that is normal---jack

I have a 2006 Dyna SuperGlide, and I have very, very little vibration. My mirrors stay totally clear. So I say check your top mount and turnbuckle, plus your front mount. Good Luck.

Tnbrit:

I have mentioned before on this site about the chassis vibration that I feel on my new 2006 FXDLI. Well I should correct myself. From where I sit I feel nothing unusual. For my wife, and all the others that have taken the time to ride on the rear (including two service gals from two different dealerships), there is a very objectionable vibration starting with the foot pegs, working up to the rear portion of the seat and then again to the sissy bar. I went back to my dealer and asked them to test ride another new FXDLI (on their floor) and they reported that this one was identical to mine. To be sure, let me specify that one of the gals from the dealership that rode on the back, reported that in a 10 minute ride, she had a headache from the vibration. I am told now that the dealersihp is looking to get the area service rep in to discuss it.
