Ok. opinions please. If a guy was ordering a new bike, and on a budget , my thought is to knock off the security system and save a couple hundred. I sould sure like opinion on this thought. I sorta think the security system is not woth it. Am i crazy thinking this way ?
I know this sounds goofy , but i am a Libra and sometimes do not think straight .
Depends on the crime rate where you live, where you store the bike (inside/outside), and if you lock the ignition, forks, and if you chain her up or not. If you live where the crime rate is low, store her indoors, and lock her up (with or without a chain) everytime you're done riding her, and when she's parked, I see no benefit to having the system. There was a post a few days back where one member had his bike stolen with the security system armed, forks and ignition locked too...If someone wants your bike bad enough, they're going to get it! I have the security system installed (seemed like a good peace of mind when I was buying here, even though there's almost NO crime where I presently live). Incase you don't know it, the security system has no alarm on it. That's another way for HD to make some money...sell you the siren after you buy the system. What the system will do however, is to disable the ignition so it shouldn't be able to be hot wired (notice I didn't say can not be).
If you want an extra peace of mind, get it. If you think you can rely on the locks, stray from it. Just my 2 cents...
I got it for the discount on insurance. That amount in itself will pay for the alarm over the life of the bike. As for it working to keep the bike mine.... If someone really wants it nothing will stop them.
Mine came with it, I didn't have a choice. If I had I wouldn't have got it, it's a pain in the *** to use and completely worthless if you don't pay extra for the alarm siren. In fact I don't even remember how to turn it on and off so I just leave it alone.
