Thoughts on security system please
I got the security only because it was on the only SB they had left and it was the last 06 they were gettin. Like voyager, I have never used it. I haven't even set the damn code...If they (thievin' bastids) want the bike bad enuff they'll get it....andI pity they're sorry asses if I ever catch 'em...But I keep it locked in a shed and I got guns and a big dawg and everyone around here knows I'm crazy anyways.......lol....
where your thinking seems to be a little weak,
is trading your bike. You'll save a lot more if
you sell the bike outright. Of course, most of us
are in a hurry and we fatten the dealers wallet as
a result[:@]

The only real security system that works is INSURANCE. If you have your bike well insured then at least you can replace it. You can't stand over the bike with a .45 all the time, that would be the only way to keep some one who really wants it from getting it.
no doubt that if they really want your bike, they can steal it. but the more difficult you can make it to steal to the amateur, the better chance it will be where you left it. i use the installed security system, lock the forks and even chain it up when i'm on the road.
I agree, if a thief wants your bike bad enough it will be gone....
I keep my bikes in a locked garage and use 3wireless motion detectors inside the garage, the alarm unit is in my house. I have two very well trained "man's best friends" just waiting for their chance to investigate once the alarm goes off. My house is also in the middle of2 acres of land.........which means you have a long way to run to reach the fence. My guess is you will make it approx 30 yards before the dogs confront you. I could call them off but what fun would that be

Hey Voyager, what are you thinking of trading in for? When I was dealing for my SG, they dropped $400 for an identical bike w/o the alarm, and I bought it.Feel the same as others, it is maybe good in hi crime area, but otherwise, if stolen...tough chit! Get good insurance andyou are set IMO.
There are basically three security add-ons you can get for your bike: the baisc immobilizer that keeps the bike from starting unless your key fob is present; the siren and finally the pager that tells you if the siren is going off.
The basic system qualifies you for an insurance discount. If the discount is deep enough, that might be the only thing that's worthwhile.
The siren module is kind of pointless because the base security system isn't sensitive enough to help out in the situations you care about -- someone climbs on your bike or someone starts messing with the bags. The security system's "motion sensor" can only really detect motion on the order of someone raising your bike off the kickstand.
The pager is made useless since it only goes off if the siren goes off, and as noted above the siren doesn't go off unless something major is going on. In that case, by the time to get to the parking lot there won't be much for you to do.
Insurance is your best bet.
