I have a little time to decide , but I would like a few opinions abought the Manufaturer
and quality and ease of installing Forward Controls on my new Dyna Low Rider .
Should I get the Harley brand , or KURYAKYN or something else ??
I,m looking at Quality and looks first ..
Price not as important ..
Thanks for the ideas ...[8D]
Since you have a Low Rider, which is one of the nicest looking Dyna's, more chrome and goodies than the rest of the models, then get some good stuff when you buy anything for it. I would look seriously and buying Jay Brake. It'll probablycost you about a grand, but it's going to look like a grand. Remember, you're going to get what you pay for. I bought the set-up from H-D out of the catalog that supposedly comes from the Wide Glide for my '06 Super Glide custom. CRAP. That's all I can say about it. It works, but itsimply looks like a total pile. It's expensive and if I had know about the other options, like Jay Brake, that's the way I would have gone. I've spent enough money making that set-up look good to actually buy the Jay Brake system. Plus I've still got to buy the billet shifter and brake lever. There's another $200 or so. Whichever brand you get, just make sure you get the look you want in the first package you buy.
I got the Harley Brand Forwards on my '04 Superglide and would have to agree with 06FXDCIRider. For my blacked-outish Superglide the Harleyforwardswere a better match, and slightly cheaper too. But if chrome is your poison, then spend the extra dough and get some really nice forwards that stand out. Just my opinion. If you look in the J&P catalog there are a dozen or so really unique sets that can set your bike apart from the rest.
If I remember correctly, most of the forward controls in the J&P catalog fit up to '05 Dynas (I'm not sure why they won't fit '06 up). Only one or maybe two fit the '06 up Dynas. I foundthe Kuryakn and the HD kit to fit '06 up Dyna's but I don't know about J-brake.
Can't get any easier to install than Kuryakyn's Deluxe Forwards. $400 retail but can be bought everyday for $300 on ebay. They are good quality and all chrome with countersunk fasteners, etc. What makes them easy to install, however, is the fact that you don't have to deal with the primary at all. You put a chrome cover on the old shifter spline and a clip on the mid linkage to lock it behind the primary out of sight. Depending on the look you are going for - more chrome with Kury or more plain with HD, and the fact that you'll have that cover in plain site on the spline with the Kury kit, either kit should work okay.
On the other hand, there are other kits that are way more expensive but they look it. But, if price is no object, go for it.
I just bought the hd forward controls off ebay for 287.00 shipping and all. It only took about two hours to install with a five year old helping me. I dont think they look bad. Not as good as others but not bad. Just needs a different brake pad and shifter rod to improve look.
