Hey gnip, first of all thanks for your opinion, thought i'd tell you i'm not into dirt bikes right now, i'm 41 and been riding since 18, don't think i'll be taking any safety courses soon. No disrespect, but i probably joined the ranks of motorcyclists before you were sucking on your mothers nipple, and by the way i drive a TrailBlazer, nothing against Volvo. I think you missed my concern on Crash Bars. Thanks for your opinion.
I'm used to them, so to me, the bars are almost invisible. I decided it is going to be impossible to keep the "lean and mean" look unless I just keep it in the garage. I can't carry ANYTHING with me. I have to do something for storage. This will change the look .
Have to say ... they do not look good ... black may help ... and a set of bags to balance ... but I would want a smaller/less obvious set myself ... i'm with you on the safety/cosmetic protection ... f knows I have got a volvo (its full of my dive kit and stinks ) ... maybe just a 'mustache' bar ... that's another for the winter list to make !
I have bars on my landrover which protected the front pretty well when i laid it on its side ...

Here is mine...of course bike looks better without them but they are there for a reason.
I think I might powdercoat the bars flat black though cause they would be less obvious.
I have them on my 06 Street Bob. They're the 1st thing that went on. At first I thought they looked awful, sticking out all over the place, but I didn't really care much if they looked cool or whatever because they have a job to do and they do it (if only giving some peace of mind that a minor drop remains minor). I kept the mid controls on my bike, so I put some highway pegs on the crash bars for stretchability. So now the bars have 2 jobs to do! Once you get used the look of them on your bike, they look fine. Like everyone says, do what you like and what's comfortable for you.
most people down here run em for deer protection , more than one person has had his leg saved from a break when they clipped a deer. those suckers wrap right around your bike[:'(]
Just to revive and old thread. I pick up my Street Bob on Monday (Yeaaaa!!!!). Will crash bars work with extended forward controls? I'm 6-01, but its mostly legs so FC's arent an option, theyre a necessity.
I'm currently keeping my girlfriend's Sportster warm for her while she's taking the M/C Safety Course (this weekend). The Sporty has f/c's and a crash bar and its pretty comfortable.
So I guess options are: standard fc's with crash bar, extended fc's only, or extended fc's and crash bar if it'll work.
