On my '00 FXD ~ I went to geared cams ~ my 203's were all wore out (ready to blow) at 88k miles. Andrews 36 G for more pull and the 37 G if you prefer your powerband to extend up to red line; it is really about how you ride and where you generally access your power. (Geared cams are stronger, more reliable but noisier). I'm not sure if they've fixed the chain cam problems for the '07s .. might want to check.
Woods TW6, Head Quarters TC 500, Crane HTC 310, some good bolt in cams
OK to just swap out the cams? I have the stg 1 upgrade, so can I just put in the cam? Is it relatively easy or..? I'm getting better at wrenching but no pro.[sm=feedback.gif]
I have an extensive automotive background and started with V twins 10 yrs ago, I had little trouble doing myown work.
The 07 cams are alittle different than my 05 stuff, so you may not need to goin this deep, but this is for every one interested in the job.
It is the right tools that help with the rest........press tools not pictured!
pictured are the inner cam bearing tools to change your OE ones out for the Torrington bearings.
the press tools are for getting the outer cam bearings off/on the support plate and cams.
you will have to have the bike retuned after the install, and youll need some adjustable pushrods, and some bolt cutters to get the old ones out. and a torque wrench and basic hand tools and the courage to tear into your baby!
The 07s will still require cutting of the pushrods, but the cam plate will just require only removing of the chain tensioners and sliding the old cams out and the new in! the innerbearings are up to the owner whether or not to change will lower miles, I did mine at 2k miles just cause I was there.
I used old Evo tappet block aligment tools to align the oil pump back to the support plate. went like butter!
An experienced Indy could rock one out in a couple of hours.
Mentor, thanks for the great info.! Wow, I dunno if i'm ready for all that yet, I'll keep the post handy just in case I get the courae up! Thanks again.
