I just put a down payment on a brand new FXDI standard (not custom), due in Feb. $12,200.
Take a close look at what you get in the new '06's. I did, and decided that a used one would have to be really cheap. The '06's have enough technological improvements to make them a whole new bike. 6 speed, better chassis, wider rear tire, closed loop EFI, better cam plates, etc.
Now, keep in mind there's a lot of small differances between the Custom and the Standard. Functionally, they are the same bike. But the Custom comes with a 2 up seat, laced wheels, lots of chrome, and some additional paint color choices. All the addfitions are cosmetic. For all that, HD charges an additional $2K. So a new Custom with no add ons and single color paint would cost you about $14,200.
The one I'm looking at has Vance & Hines pipes, sissy bar with pad, few other dewdads, HD tach (not installed), plus no shipping, dealer prep, paperwork fee and whatever else a dealer tries to stick me with.........
