06 Dyna Recall Progress
I received my recall notice in the mail yesterday and trekked over to see my local HD dealer in Valparaiso Indiana. Well, here's what I was told regarding the tranny recall. (Take it for what it's worth - remember this is from a dealer)!
It will be at least 3 weeks before they will get a chance to work on my bike because . . . even though Harley has sent out the recall notices to the new owners, HD has not sent out the tech repair videos (instructions) to the HD service departments. The repair (how-to) videos are supposed to show the HD mechanics how to perform the recall. According to the HD service manager, at this point in time HD mechanics are not/should not be working on the new 6-speed trannies. The service manager stated that NO harley mechanics have ever opened up the new 6-speeds and they shouldn't do so until they have seen the (as of now unavailable) repair videos. The dealer stated the videos are expected within a few weeks.
I don't know if this is an escuse of some sort or what, but they certainly didn't instill any confidence in me. Since snow is on the ground and I won't be riding any time soon - I'll wait a while to get the recall done. Since they truly seemed like they didn't know what they were doing - I think it makes sense to let them get some practice first!
The way I look at it, I'm already playing the part of a guinea pig by buying the new WG - I don't want to be the guinea pig for the mechanics too!!

Here is a link to the tech sheet that shows everything they'll do to your tranny..

I'm going to let them do a few other bikes before I take mine in..
Does anyone know the VIN's affected?
There's no build date sig on the frame.
I bought my bike in October (non domestic) so I guess there's a good chance that mine is included in the recall.

Thanks for a copy of the tech sheet. I agree, I am haveing no probs, never trust the nuetral light, and want them to get some practice first! I wonder if, since they are changing the inner bearing, it is a new one? It did say it was a recall, AND part of the initial care program? What is good, is even though we are GPs, The MoCo is paying to P/U and deliver the bike, and get it done in one day.

Quoted by WLBowers:
Which recall? They picked up my Low Rider today for the neutral switch recall. While it is in for that he swore to check for all of the others.
Yes, the recall for the false neutral light with the transmission engaged. Three parts are to be changed. Sounds like yours is already being started.

Got my recall notice in the mail two days ago (12/19), yesterday (out of the blue) my dealer called me and wanted to set up an appointment to have them pick the bike up and begin the work immediately.
On a side note, I was at the dealer yesterday looking at some of the touring models and talking to the salesman who sold me my Dyna. I was thinking out loud about the possibility of the 6-speed being put into the touring models for '07 and he actually had the ballz to say, "I wouldn't touch that tranny with a ten foot pole. Harley needs another couple of years to get the bugs worked out." Strangely enough, he couldn't say enough nice about it when I was buying the Dyna. Go figure.

you got to remember salemen only a giving few are riders where i come from it dont make no deffernt Harley or rice bikes you better know something about bikes and your model bikes you want to get you do not go by what these guys say enless you know they know what they are talking about or you are going to be in deep S--- trust me to some its a job just like yours and mine it takes years to know what is what and alot of them dont stay long enough to know .i have been around bikes alot of years and i do mean alot and there is only a hand full of people who keep up on the changes on bikes you find one stay close and hope they pay him what he deserves or he wont be around long.
Mine not going to well. Called local HD dealer four days ago after receiving my notice to make appt and check on the parts (that they are in). I'm told all is well, parts kit was in and to bring it in. I did. Dropped off Sat 12/17/05. A few minutes ago I receive a call from the Service dept saying there is a complication (four days later mind you). Service man tells me there is a special "tool" that is needed to make the necessary repairs and that the special "tool" will not be in until Jan 20th 2006!! I'm holding the phone saying to myself WTF?? Oh, and that they have storage issues and I need to pick up the bike. Jeez, I'm not too happy but I suppose it's no big deal. I just bought the friggin bike (2006 Dyna SuperGlide Custom) not less than 2 months ago. This is my first HD, I hope it's not an omen

After reading some of the other posts here, I think I'm gonna wait awhile before taking it back in. I only have 260 miles on the bike.
Maybe I should just wait till the 1000 mile service, but that could take awhile as I only ride for fun when I have time. Just thought I'd post my recall experience.

Seann,
That's bulls***. The dealer should be bringing the bike back to you - you shouldn't have to go get it. (Harley is reimbursing the dealers for the transportation costs so it's not like you're imposing on them.)
