Default Polished covers

I would like for the main engine covers on my bike to have the same polished finish as the rocker covers (on a Super Glide). Is it realistic to polish the silver powder coated ones, or are there polished (rather than chromed) covers out there for sale somewhere? Does anybody know?

Not very practical, you can get replacements that way if you have deep pockets

You can chemically strip the silver powdercoat off of your covers but the finish of the metal will not be the same [as bright] as you rocker boxes. You would have to polish the pieces out and either leave them bare (requiring additional polishing from time to time) or get them clear coated with a clear made to take the heat without yellowing. Either way, it would be very difficult to get an exact match to the stock rocker boxes. I'd recommend doing the rocker boxes at the same time.

Like was mentioned above, you could also purchase the covers you want but that leaves you with your old ones to collect dust or try to sell.

Any ideas on who sells polished covers? I'm not sure I'm up to the stripping/polishing/clear coating bit...but who knows?

Something to ponder and consider - If you get polished aluminum covers, you will eventually wish you had chrome covers. Polished aluminum doesn't stay "polished" long and will require lots of elbow grease to keep them looking good. My advice is to bite the bullet and spring for the chrome engine kit. It is a fun winter project to install it and it looks nice forever.

I'm sure that is what will eventually happen (either that or stick with the silver). I just like the look of polished, and it's something different.

My bike came with polished covers, other than washing with soap & water I only clean them up once or twice a riding season using Never Dull.
