I also went in looking for an Electra-Glide when I saw this silver FXD. I must have sat on every bike in the show room and kept going back to the Dyna. After 18 months I still like the FXD and have not had a second thought about any other bike, except when I'm pissed at my dealer's svc. dept. (another story). Mine is set up like I want and I can't think of much more I want to do with it. I actual enjoy the fact that my bike gets looked over for all the other flash, kinda like keeping a big snake in the saddle bag. I may eventually add bags and a small fairing, but it is not killing me to get it done.

I just traded in my '07 Ultra and '06 EG Std for a '08 FXD. I owned a FXD back in '05 .. Rode it all over the States. Sure was a great bike.. Now I have another one. [sm=icon_cheers.gif]

06 FXD just what I wanted for around town and short trips, doing a little to it just to bediffernt, some stuff is done in black and couple other things, but not going to go wild with it..just like my FLHT, best buy for your buck and you can make it yours real cheap.

I agree with Chipstah that the Super Glide Custom is the best deal going.

I bought the Bob and drove home with my full face helmet on. I could not read anything on the tank because of my chin guard, unless I tilted my head down, (not good). If you wear a FF and don't want a wind screen the SG is the way to go.
I have since purchased the windscreen and a set of halfs for me and the babe. For touring I'll probably go with a 3/4 with a full shield so my eyes can look down at the tank without my head tilting down.

My two favorite harleys are the bare bones sportsters and the dyna super glide.....I ain't much for a bunch a chrome, painted engines, etc etc....I have always liked to keep it simple when it comes to motorcycles, trucks and jeeps,, even airplanes....I enjoy flying a little cessna 150 with bare minimum instruments, gauges etc....In cars and trucks i HATE power locks, doors, windows, etc etc....I prefer to just keep it simple...My wifes jaguar xj6 has power everything, and it absolutely drives me CRAZY ! Her windows mess up, power locks are intermittent , door handles are a pain in the a$$ etc....It looks nice ! But it has TOO MANY bells and whistles for my taste ! My bare bones jeep has 309 thousand miles on it now, and EVERYTHING works, cause everything is SIMPLE and functional....Nothing electric, nothing fancy,,,,,Works for me !

and you indeed have a good point, I remember the days of motorcycles only having a motor, tranny, wheels and a Carb..thats it, now days people go in and by a barge with everything on it that they really do not have to have, just want, and think they need..my own brother is one of them, LOL if I want to listen to music and talk to my wife I'll take the truck. as for me, the day of the true motorcyclist is going by the wayside..but to each his own, who am I to say what one should have or does need on their bike..I just snicker at cruise control, cd players, and radios, on board air compressors, etc, etc...

Yep, focus on the ride ~ not on a bunch of 'stuff' hooked on. If you log in a lot of miles get a windshield; otherwise .. the new 6 speed FXD really only requires forward controls and a stage 1 upgrade to run richer/breathe better.
