While the frames may have changed, the concept was always the same: mate a stripped-down big twin with a Sportster front end = Superglide. Nothing looks cooler.
The first Dyna was the Sturgis model in 1991 FXDB.The Dyna was a perimeter frame meaning that the frameencircled the engine and transmission rather than having a frame center tube between the engine and tranny. This enabled the engine and transmission to be installed as one unit rather than two seperate ones.It cut production costs a bit.
The 2006 FXD35 wasnt the 35thanniversery of the Dyna,it was the 35 anniversery of the Super Glide model. As all Harley models are designated by thier respective frames first, this is why all models are designated as Dynasdue to thier frames.

Excellent info. Thanks! So my Dyna is about as early as you can get. Kinda cool, I guess. Ehhh, not really a big deal. lol
My bad!! The Superglide was introduced on 1971 as the FX 1200, considered the First Factory Custom. The Dyna was introduced in 1990 and hence the FX(D). Below is a good web site for some info on Harley History. Kind of the Readers Digest variety.
