I bought a 07 FXDL and its my first Harley,It clunks pretty hard in the first 4 gears,i figure its just a harley thing.I am just going to get ust to it,
It's a harley thing - sort of a signature and a sign things are just fine. Change to synthetic and it quiets it down a bit, but as DougJ said, clunk=good !!
Topspin... my 07 Low Rider (and all Harleys I know of) clunk into gear... there big, bulky, American Iron ! You can really smooth that tranny out though by dumping out that quart of whatever in there now and puttin in a quart of Redline Heavy ShockProof Gear Oil... I didn't change till 5K when it was suggested to me... now with 10K plus, wish I had switched at the 1K service... Ed H. VaBch, Va
After awhile you'll really appreciate a clunk here and a clunk there - the true Harley sounds. They took the potato potato sound away with the damn high idle for the EPA but at least so far, we can still feel good old strong beefy American gears clunking.
Gives me a warm feeling all over......now just don't tell me they make em in China now.
have you ridden with a group of harleys yet. it's a pretty good chorus of clunking goin' on most everybody shifting in sucession. some onece describe a harley transmission shifting like a piece of agricultural equipment going into gear CLUNK. ride safe.
