Hi Storm

Can you give me a bit more detail about "the taking apart" as guys have told me it would be a nightmare because of the catalytic convertor being welded into one of the mufflers !!!

How simple does it come apart ??

Thanks

I removed each muffler.....the cat is in front of the slip ons.....drilled out 3 rivets on each muffler....took a small hammer handle inserted into the headpipe end of the muffler....tapped it on the floor...and out came the baffle....I then took a pair of needle nose pliers to remove the fiberglass packing.....it was stuck to the side of the can....then re-inserted the baffle...re-riveted......re-installed muffer.......took a total of about 2 hours

I did the same on my 07 and they sounded like $hit....I then put on the cycle shack turn outs (drag pipes) Way 2 LOUD but they did sound good and the price $135.00 also good. I settled for the Rush slip-ons with a 2" baffle and am very well satisfied.
Just my .02 worth

If I can get enough people to send me their .02 instead of posting here I can save enough money to buy a pair of rush pipes.....until then.....I will have to stick with free for now.....its better that stock......but I know there are lots of better sounding options......somewhere down the tax hiway I will get something.....but to date I have only spend $4 doing all my modifications (not counting my time) after removing parts from my sporty before trading it.....some of those parts were used on this bike....and others will be sold soon.....for now I am happy......

The baffle is wrapped in fiber glass? What If I drill through the plug in the middle of the baffle? Will I hit glass, void my warrenty, or get more flow. I have a 1/2 inch bit that is 18" long that I've used for running cable; I'm thinking about giving this a try.

Good to hear someone is experimenting with the mufflers. I agree they're just too darn quiet. I was thinking Rush slip-ons but noticed that they no longer say that no fuel management change is required if you use 2" or smaller baffles. I had put them on an 07 Fatboy and loved the sound but the header pipes immediately turned blue & ran much hotter. I had to add an AC, SERT, & dyno tune to fix things. Here's a link to a thread I started about the FatBob mufflers.

gnip....the glass is wrapped around the outside of the baffle....between the baffle and the can. I plan on taking mine apart again on a crappy weather day to do some experimenting to see if i can get a little more volume.....for free.

Got to tell this story here. In my younger days when I was full of p*ss & vinegar I wanted more sound from my bike but had no internet supply & no money anyway. I completely removed the baffles (had to destroy them to get em out). The sound was loud and terrible. No nice tone quality at all & the engine lost lots of torque. I made a "lolypop" for each muffler by welding the head of a small bolt to a metal disk (almost the diameter of the inside of the muffler). Then drilled a bolt hole in the bottom of each muffler. I put the disks inside the mufflers with the bolt stud sticking out the hole & put nuts on them. This adjustable baffle restored the missing torque and toned down the harshness of the sound somewhat.

By the way them are nice bikes, if I was to buy a new bike I think I would go with the "fat bob"
