Go for the Street Bob. I was just at a local dealership today, and I asked about the passenger seat and pegs. The seat is $129, and the pegs were $129. If that is to much, try ebay.
I'm pretty sure there is one more piece that is about the same price, to reinforce the fender...
Nope, that is all he will need. Adding the seat is easy, just need to move the seat nut to the rear hole. The passenger pegs were a little more of a PITA. Do not follow the directions and remove the rear tire to install.
October 12th I went to my local dealer thinking I wanted a used Fat Boy...rented one down in Tejas last September and finally understood what the Big Deal was with riding a Harley (before, I had only ridden on a few 883 Sportsters)...then I saw the Fat Bob, then I sat in it...next morning my wife dropped me off at the dealership and I rode home on my new denim black '08 Fat Bob. It took me a whole 20min to get accustomed to the drag bars, and since then I have been having the most fun 800miles of riding ever...go with the Fat Bob.
Man, I'm still at 150 miles. It's been crap weather for a week and a half and I have yet to have a morning I can ride into work. Got my fingers crossed for tomorrow.
I've had loads of bikes over the years and I don't think there's a single one that I haven't enjoyed owning. I've had all sorts from old British Bikes to very powerfull sports bikes and they have all had one quality or another that I've enjoyed. Some bikes take a while to get used to but they are often more rewarding in the longer term.
I don't think you'll go far wrong buying either the Street Bob or the Fat Bob. I've just ordered a Fat Bob myself but it suits me perfectly and it's one of the best looking bikes I've ever seen. I like the bars because they're very similar to my current bike which I feel comfortable riding. Most people like what they are used to and I'm no exception.
For me the bike itself is only part of the experience. I've met some of the best people in the world through riding a bike and I value the friendships I've made more than any other single factor. I've met some truly bad people as well, of course, but that's all part of life's rich pagent.
If I won a Fatboy, I'd sell it or trade it in. I don't like Softtails. I wanted a Street Bob all last year - until I saw the Nightster, but didn't get it because I already have a Sporty that's set up pretty nice. Then when I saw the Fat Bob, everything else went out the window. If I was rich I would have Russell Mitchell build me a bike - I've always been a fan of Exile Cycles. The Fat Bob reminds me of the exile style - to each his own - just my opinion!
I went to my localdealer set to purchase a shiny new Night Train. (yeah, I really liked the bad azz look).Checked outat the very cool SB's & was looking around for the FB's when the sales guy informed me they couldn't keep 'em on the floor.
Anyway, after I got home a bud came by & we discussed the NT. Hereally talked upthe FB, soI spent the night reading the reviews, etc...
Next day I contacted my 'olamigo at N Tx H-D& inquired if he had one. He sure did,the very one I was looking for (shiny blackw/for cntrls)&asked him to put my name on it ... I'm coming to get her in a few days. The first time I seenone up close & sat on one was when I picked her up. I was immediately stoked.
I really like the lookas well as the fat frnt tire.Dam ruts in the roads won't freak me out anymore. Now I just gotta make her louder (wife even says so).
good luck with whatever you decide to purchase digger
I sat on my first FB today and it was a big dissappointment....[] I had been drooling over the pics of them for months but when I sat on it, it was about two inches taller than I liked and the bars were better than the night train but still too low for a comfortable ride.
I jumped back on my SB confident I made the right decision months ago!
