Default U KNOW MOREN ME

Left the Harley dealership yesterday after a ride on a November day in Colorado.Went to start and no juice from battery, had to push. Battery relatively new, just put new one in 20,000 ago, didn't leave the switch on. Brought it home and put on the trickle, charged up great, but its draining again, what went out.

Sounds like the engine is not charging the battery. Loose wire, bad ground, bad charging system.

I screwed around with mine for a coupla months, battery and charging system checked good, but after a full charge it would be weak after a few days and I ride every day.Twenty five thousand miles on the battery, replaced the battery and no problems since.

Good Luck

Tom

check the conections... clean them all... then check your wires... if the battery is holdinga charge that is all good... but it should not be draining... the only thing the battery does is start the bike... after that it runs on your altinator... if it is running on your battery the altenator is mostlikly the issue... i have had this issue with old honda CB's they made them to run without the head lights on so when you turn the headlights on the over use of voltage drains the battery...

Pull your primary chain inspection cover off, if there is a burn't smell then the stator is toast. Read voltage thru your pigtail that you plug your charger into after you've started the bike and let run for a couple of minutes the voltage should be 13-13.5 volts then increase rpm to about 2400 rpm and the voltage should be around 14-14.2 volts. This can also be done at the battery posts if you want to. If you don't have a mutimeter find some one who does. Also there is a "tech section" that can help out testing the stator and rectifier/regulator. This can be PIA so good luck. If you have to replace the stator you may want consider an Cycle Electric unit and Cycle Electric regulator

I agree with Senior S Sounds like your Stator may have taken a ****... [:@] if so his instructions are on the money about how to diagnose it.

Happened to me at 6200 miles. HD replaced it under warranty.

Actually, a new battery 20,000 ago is not new, especially if (?) it's not kept on a tender - may not be taking or holding charge.
