Ok, took the scoot out today. Was itchin to ride (its cold here, 'round 40, but the sun was out) so im puttin along, and some cage comes up behind me, real close like, REAL close. Now I hate when this happens. Pisses me off to no frikin end. Usually I just speed up, or switch lanes. Not this time. Did the incredibly stupid. (Don't know what I was thinkin, just was trully mad.) Was in 4th doing around 40, hit the brakes and clutch, cage was excelerating, lost his front end in my mirror, Imusta then beendoin around 30. Just as I thought he was gonna hit me....A nano second before i was gonna excelerate to save me and my bike.....the tranny, all by its self, drops into 3rd. I pull back on the throttle and JOLT right outta there. I heard his/her tires screetch then looked at my speedo.....50MPH.
Hows that possible? How did my bike down shift by itself? Not that I'm notone happy MF'er, Just wanna know why.

Not sure what happened with your bike but I'll bet that cager never tailgates a biker again - lol. I've brake-checked a few and got away with it but I usually do as you said - leave them in my dust.
Varmint, I'd call it "Devine Intervention". Or the " the Harley Gods were smiling upon you".
If you're not religious, I'd say your reflexes took over and your body did what it was supposed to do, without waiting for your brain to OK it.
Either/ any way you slice it, you were lucky! Glad to hear it worked out well for you. You gonna play the Lotto today? May want to consider it...
Scary ****! I've been in a couple of situation like that, always chose to move and tell them they are #1.
Makes me feel better without getting killed. Plus, let's them know I'd like them to pull over (kinda even the odds on two feet).
I agree with the others...your foot must've been just right on the shifter and you were at just the right RPM range and basically speed shifted, for lack of a better term. I'm sure even though it was 40 outside, you probably felt pretty warm with all the adrenelin, too!
I hate the tailgate. I live on a fairly busy street and every damn time I just wanna turn into my own driveway, I almost get creamed. Like wk above, when I'm not at my house and it happens, I just move over and make the same motion. Its usually nice when we both reach the next turn signal together, though. Funny how people get that "I'm not looking" look when you're staring at them. Man, they really focus on the street in front of them.
