Actually, you hadmentioned checking it when hot and said it was OK. Like grandpawmoses mentioned, I was specifically talking about tire diameter growth due to centrifugal force when travelling at higher speeds. Like I said, not sure it's a problem, but I think fatter tires tend to do this a bit more. I'm not sure how you can find out to what extent this will happen though. Perhaps tire manufacturers have this info? Or maybe someone online has tested some different sized tires at different speeds which might give a rough estimate? Worth Googling maybe.

They do grow.
I have a polished underfender on the mudSickle to prove it.
I do believe my tire grew by approx three quarters inch.
I heard that Metz. tires don't have the "growth" problem. If your fender isn't any closer than 3/4", there should not be a problem, at least I don't think there would be, but, I'm not a tire guy.

I've heard this too. If you saw any of the Eddie Trotta bike build on the Speed Channel show (don't remember the name), you saw that he won't use anything but Metz. tires because of that fact since he likes to build his bikes with the fenders slammed as much as possible.
I've run oversized tires on all my ricers and I typically get by with 3/8 to 1/2" clearance That's why I tried to lower the fender on my Harley it looks ridiculous no street bike needs that much clearance.
