Headlight Mount
What a great thread! Lots of creative ideas in here i plan to utilize this winter. Thought i'd add one of my own. Very simple but i like.
Didn't like the way the stock headlight on my '08 fxd sat back in the forks (and didn't want to spend the money for some fancy headlight (yet)) so i fashioned a mount out of 3/4 " aluminum to move it out some. Cost about $10 plus a bunch of manual labor cutting and filing. Polished up real nice so it looks like factory. Don't have a before pic or a close-up (had to borrow camera to get this one) but you can see the result below. Moved headlight out about 2" from stock position and kept it at about the same level.

Thanks. Guess i'm gonna have to consider my own digi camera so i don't have to keep borrowing one. Here's a closeup.
Used 3/4" aluminum stock (that's the thickness of the stock mount)
that was 1 1/2 inches wide by 2 1/4 +/- inches long.
Drilled and tapped hole in one end to match threads of existing bolt.
Hole is about 1" deep to accomodate stock bolt which sits about 7/8" above triple tree.
Drilled hole in other end to accomodate headlight mounting bolt.
Then i just trimmed excess stock to give it a little style
(and drilled a hole in the middle to reduce excess weight
).
After that a bunch of filing, sanding, and polishing.
With the 1 1/2 inch width of the stock,
you could raise the mounting hole for the headlight up about 1/3 - 1/2 an inch.
I put it as low on the stock as i could which kept it at about the same level as the stock mount.
It moves the light forward about 1 3/4 inches.
Before, with the stock mount, the headlight trim ring was just about even with the windshield.

man that is great! i am a bit confused on the process you went though to make it... think you can break that down? i would really like to do this and it would be nice to see how someone that has done it before recomends doing it MAN that looks great!
