Okay folks, in my infinite wisdom as I was tring to remove my rear fender (07 Street Bob) I removed one shock bolt then the other. Yes, the bike has squated down on itself and now I don't know what the he11 to do!!
Did I mention this is my first Harley and my first motorcycle!!
I know I get the daily dumb a$$ award. All I have is a floor jack and I can't seem to find a way to make that help me.
Any input or suggestions are greatly appreciated!!
yeah you should be able to get it jacked up and get em hooked back on. Just curious why you unbolted the shocks if you were removing your rear fender? Good luck!
If you put it on the stand and push carefully towards the stand the opposite side might go back on ... worked for me but I only had one off
If not then take the fender off so it doesn't get bent and lever a long piece of 4x2 between the tyre and the strut ... then lift the bike onto the shock using the lever
Were you using the procedures in the maintenance manual? Some how I doubt it. If you don't have one, get one, and don't try to take anything else apart until you do. That is, if you value your bike at all. Good luck!!
I was trying to get the covers off the fender braces to powder coat in addition to removing the fender. I went to Harbour Freight and bought a motorcycle jack. I was planning on getting one anyway.
As an added bonus its even painted orange and black!!
I do have a service manual and it has been very helpful when I've read it. I didn't bother to read it before removing the shocks, live and learn!!
If anyone is interested I did get the shocks back on. I think the left one is screwed up though. I was able to re install it but the top of it looks like it is bent slightly.
I was thinking of a possible upgrade anyways, now the decision has been made for me.
