...I know, I know... I should ride all 12 months... But there's a ton of sand and crap on the roads right now up here in MA - it's just not that much fun right now.
So here's my dilemma. I have a spot in the resident parking garage at my place, but it's an open air garage. The bike won't get rained on or anything, but it's still semi-outdoors. Does anyone think it'd be ok to leave it in there for the winter, or should I pony up the $399 to have it stored at Boston Harley-Davidson?
security is definitely a concern - I worry about it all the time (which sucks, but such is life when you're living in a city...) that's something I have to deal with in the summer when the weather is nice, though.....
Only you know if you should be riding 12 months a year. I should be; but I don't know if you should be. I too live in MA and was out riding yesterday. It was fun.
That aside, the bike itself should have no problem in a parking garage. Mine lives in a tent. I put a battery tender on it when the temps go below freezing -- you might have to make other arrangements. This is my bike's second winter in the tent and it's always ready to go when I am.
If you do decide to put it up at the dealer, give Kelly's HD in Billerica a call -- I'm pretty sure they cost less than what you quoted and they're much nicer folks. If you do put your bike up for the winter, look into cancelling the plates and insurance while it's off the road. You might save enough to offset the storage fee.
I dont really have your problem but dude that's a lot to store it for a few months. We have winter boat storages here big warehouses, some heated and some not, but the cost to store a boat is much less than that. I bet you could rent a corner in a boat storage or similar warehouse storage area cheaper. maybe a freind with a boat could help you out.
